I think the length was what the subject needed. I loved hearing about his history -starting with the Civil War. It's so important to have stories from regions that have seen conflict that aren't directly about the conflict itself. They give a much more holistic picture :)
Yes, I felt like any longer would have been too long. And I know what you mean, the human stories that aren't directly about war but showcase how people emerged from difficult circumstances are just as important.
